World Conference

About

The World Association of Girls Guides and Girls Scouts organizes the World Conference, in collaboration with the hostess Member Organization every three years in a different part of the world.

The World Conference is WAGGGS’ formal policy making body and provides an opportunity for Member Organizations to meet not only to conduct Conference business, but also to join together for training purposes and networking. It is also the occasion when the World Board is elected.

Delegates and observers represent Member Organizations at the Conference, although the World Board may also invite guests, in cooperation with the hostess Member Organization.

South Africa 2008

The 33rd World Conference will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 6 to 12 July 2008. Hosted by the Girl Guides Association of South Africa, the Conference will be held in the Province of Gauteng, which is the economic powerhouse of the Southern African region.

The Girl Guides Association of South Africa are hoping that Conference participants will find the time to extend their visits and take part in some of the tours that will be arranged for them.

The 32nd World Conference was held in 2005 in Amman, Jordan. For more about it, read the Conference report.

As a Trefoil Guild visitor (50 years in Guiding) from UK, Hazel Newington introduced me to the amazing experience of South African Guiding in July 06. If you can do half the great ideas they were talking about, you will all have a splendid time. I wish I could share it. Thank you for making me look wider still.

Only a week to go! With so much to look forward to I'm sure the delegates are as excited as the staff and organisers!

I hope to see you there!

As a member of the GGASA, and a Gauteng resident, it is exciting to know that the conference will be taking place literally 'down the road', and that the movement will have additional exposure in South Africa!

Jennifer Leigh Jenkins 16 December 2006 - 9.09AM (GMT)

How very exciting for the next conference to be hosted by South Africa. I am sure they will do a wonderful job!
